CAMP ONE WORLD 2009
Beauty Lou & The Country Beast
This year's Camp One World, sponsored in part by LifeSize Communications, the Red Cross and BAE Systems was a smashing success complete with a wonderful reception donated by Once Upon a Time Events. Together we made "A World Apart, A Moment Together" a reality! Centered on One World's innovative performing arts summer camp, working together with the Red Cross we were able to offer scholarships to children with a deployed parent who were able to be a part of a dynamic, full-length musical production of Beauty Lou & The Country Beast.
Thanks to LifeSize and their amazing technology, the deployed parent was able to see their child on stage as the performance was happening. The child was also be able to see the pride on their parent’s face as they performed, just as if the parent were sitting in the audience. Our audience did give our deployed parents a standing ovation…in gratitude of the sacrifices they all make for us. After the performance, each child and their family was given an opportunity to talk privately with their loved one on a high-definition video screen, keeping the bond of family alive across the miles, some hugged the screen…one showed dad their new braces…. It was so beautiful!
One World, the Red Cross of Central Texas and LifeSize feel fortunate that we were able to partner and use our resources, talents and passion to keep families connected in their time of separation, as well as give back to the men and women in our armed forces.
This was truly a sensational, heart-warming event. If you're a member of Facebook, you can check out all our pictures from camp week...and while you're there, become of FAN of One World!
What Camp One World Entails
Camp One World Takes Young Austinites from Auditions to Stage in Just One Week
On Monday, One World announces that everyone’s favorite little red truck returns with everything necessary to put on an amazing full-scale musical production on the One World Theatre stage….everything except the cast. That’s where Austin students age 5 – 18 come in. In just one week, campers will go from auditions to opening night as they step on stage for a public performance as graduates of Camp One World 2009!
Led by national touring company Missoula Children’s Theatre, participants will learn how to produce an enjoyable piece of musical theatre from the inside out. Working with MCT’s professional actors and directors, participants will gain hands-on experience in every aspect of the show’s production; from learning lines and dances to seeing the world behind the curtain as crew members, there’s something to spark and sustain each individual child’s interest during a unique week of summer fun.
At the end of the week, the campers are given the rare opportunity to show friends, family, and peers what they’ve learned as they display their new talents on the One World stage.
Being apart of the magic as we create one world, one child at a time. Camp One World helps turn children into characters while building their character ....the kind that really counts. Participants not only learn their roles, but are exposed to music, instrument building and the art forms of diverse cultures from around the world, while they gain confidence in their ability to perform for family and friends on the One World stage!
